Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
  • Register and take the North Carolina NACES Exam
  • Pass both the written and skills portion of the NACES exam
  • Be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry
  • Take a Nurse Aide II Course
  • Readily find employment after being listed on the Nurse Aide Registry
  • Earn a Certificate or Diploma in Nurse Aide after completing additional courses
  • Meet the pre-requisite for entrance into an Associate Degree Nursing or Nuclear Medicine program

This course prepares graduated to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis is on the process of aging including mental, social, and physical needs of the elderly, patient rights, nutrition management, diseases/disorders, and human body structure and function, etc. The course includes class, laboratory, and clinical learning experience.

Certified Nursing Assistant I Refresher

The CNA I Refresher course provides an opportunity for nursing assistants to update their knowledge of personal care and basic nursing skills needed for care for patients. Upon completion of a written examination and a skills/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to put in an application for listing on the Nursing Aide I Registry, through the Division of Facility Services, as a North Carolina Community College Refresher Course candidate.

Certified Nursing Assistant II

The CNA II course prepares graduates to perform more complex skills for patients or residents regardless of the setting. They course includes class, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide Registry. In all employment settings, the listed Nursing Assistant II will work under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.
