The Pharmacy Technology Program prepares individuals to assist the pharmacist in duties that a technician can legally perform and to function within the boundaries prescribed by the pharmacist and the employment agency. The Pharmacy Technology Program strives to support and provide quality instruction, knowledge, and practical experience to its graduates. The goal of the graduate is to successfully pass an exam to gain a national certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and to become employable, thus providing optimal pharmaceutical care in our community at an entry level for institutional, community, and other pharmacy practice settings.

What to Expect:
Course Work
The Pharmacy Technology Program prepares individuals to assist the pharmacist in duties that a technician can legally perform and to function within the boundaries prescribed by the pharmacist and the employment agency.
Associate Degree Program
Trains students to become pharmacy technicians working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. Instruction includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences.

Career Paths
Employment opportunities include retail, hospitals, nursing homes, research laboratories, wholesale drug companies, and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Graduates from the program may be eligible to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to become a certified pharmacy technician.
Once employed, registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy is required.

Associate Degree
Pharmacy Technology (A45580)
Program Length: 4 Semesters
Prerequisite: High School Diploma/GED, 1 Unit of Biology, ENG-025 and MAT-025 or Placement Test Equivalent
Award: Associate in Applied Science
