Since its debut in 2017, Six has captured the hearts of theater-goers around the globe, including those of FTCC instructors Katie Herring, Katey Morrill and Hattie Presnell.
“We have a mutual appreciation of the show, of musical theater and of this era of history,” Herring said.
The trio teach Theatre Arts, Fine Arts and Humanities, respectively, putting them at the intersection of the topics covered in Six, which retells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII. The play is performed in the style of a modern pop music concert, with each wife performing to tell her own story.
The instructors’ shared appreciation for the show prompted them to plan Six: The Experience, an event to discuss the history, art and facts known about Henry VIII’s wives — Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr.
Six: The Experience is 1-2:30 p.m. March 20 in Cumberland Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
“We thought we should do something more formal than just chat about it in our office,” Herring said. “And we thought there might be more people who were interested in hearing us nerd out about this production.”
Since its debut in 2017, Six, written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, has grown to international success and garnered wide critical acclaim. It was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won two, including Best Original Score.
