Baseball traveled to Virginia Beach to play a three-game conference series with Bryant & Stratton College. The Trojans battled, but were unable to get a win on the weekend.
FTCC vs. Bryant & Stratton
Game One- 1-10, Loss 7-innings
Game one was a pitcher’s dull up until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bobcats scored four runs to pull the game wide open.
Brett Alvis (Hanover, VA) started on the bump for the Trojans. He threw 5.1 innings giving up three hits and four runs. Matthew Roberts (Canton, NC) and Michael Abrahanson (Dominican Republic) finished out the final innings.
The Bobcats hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third to take the lead and score the first run of the game.
Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) responded leading off the top of the fourth inning hitting a solo homerun to tie the game up at one.
The Bobcats took the lead back 2-1 in the fifth on a leadoff homerun. In the sixth inning, they blew the game open scoring four runs and again in the seventh scoring four more to end the game early in 7-innings.
Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) was 2-3 and Turner scored the only run on his solo homerun.
Game Two- 4-8, Loss
The Trojans got on the board early in game two, scoring one run in the top of the first. Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) led off with a single, he then stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Holland hit a double to right field earning the RBI.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and added five more in the second.
The Trojans rallied for three runs in the third inning off of a three-run homerun from Holland.
The Bobcats added one more run to their lead in the fourth and the Trojans were unable to respond.
Ben Rohrbach (Stafford, VA) threw all six innings for the Trojans. He gave up nine hits and seven earned runs.
Holland led the Trojan offense going 2-3 with four RBIs.
Game Three- 1-11, Loss 5-innings
The Trojans scored first in the third inning. Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) singled to right field and then stole second base. Woodley reached on an error from the right fielder that scored Outlaw from second.
The Bobcats tied the game up in the third scoring one run and then scored four more in the fourth and six more in the fifth to end the game in 5-innings.
Rob Willis (Montgomery, AL) pitched four innings for the Trojans getting seven strikeouts. He gave up six hits and one earned run. Tanner McNeal (Currituck County, NC) and Jack Anderson (Saint Simmons Island, GA) finished the final inning.
Baseball travels to Florence-Darlington Tech on Wednesday for a single non-conference game at 3pm. They will host Richard Bland this weekend at JP Riddle for their next conference series. Games are set at a 2pm start time on Saturday for the doubleheader and a single game Sunday at 1pm.
