Baseball hosted William Peace University JV last night in a single non-conference game. Last week, when they traveled to Cary they came up short, but were able to pull out the win at home.

The Pacers started the game off scoring one run in the top of the first inning on one hit.
The Trojans put up three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the first lead of the game. Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) led off the inning with a single up the middle and Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) followed with a hard ground ball single. With one out, Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) plated two runs with his single to left field. A Pacer’s error allowed another Trojan runner to reach base before Derrick Hall (Fayetteville, NC) smashed a double to the left field line to score Holland from second base.
Four more runs were put on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second for the Trojans. Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) started off with a walk and Woodley singled for his second hit of the game. With one out, Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) and Holland hit singles to score both Trojan baserunners. Wilmer Cuevas (Brentwood, NY) kept the rally going with another single before Zamar Lewis (Dublin, NC) doubled down the first base line to earn himself two RBIs.
The Pacers put up two more runs in the third to cut the Trojan lead by four.
In the bottom of third, Outlaw led off the inning with his second walk of the game. Outlaw then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error before Woodley hit a sacrifice fly to score him.
The Trojans scored three more in the bottom of the fifth to bring their lead to 12-7. Ingram got the inning started with a one out single. Turner reached on an error and Holland was hit by pitch to load the bases. Cuevas hit a blooper single to center field to score one of the Trojan runners. Lewis then hit an infield fly and with the help of a Pacer’s error, two more runners scored.
One run was scored in the bottom of the seventh to increase the lead by one more run. Lewis hit a one out double to left field and Logan Charlesworth (Fayetteville, NC) singled to bring him in.
The Pacers pulled within three runs in the top of the eighth, but the Trojans answered back in the bottom of the inning to secure their win 17-10.
With two outs, Turner hit a triple to right field and scored on a throwing error. Holland walked and Cuevas singled before Lewis hit a triple in the right center gap and ended up scoring on another Pacer throwing error for the Trojan’s fourth run of the inning.
The Trojans used four arms in this nine-inning contest. Jack Anderson (Saint Simmons Island, GA) started the game going three innings, giving up two hits and one earned run and had four strikeouts. Payton Jernigan (Dunn, NC) and Xander Davis (Carolina Beach, NC) combined for the next three innings of work and Hunter Beard (Spring Lake, NC) threw the last three innings.
Turner and Lewis each went 3-6 with a double and triple. Cuevas also had three singles. The Trojans combined for six stolen bases.
Baseball is back at home this weekend hosting Lenoir Community College for their next conference series. Saturday with be Youth Day starting at 12pm and Sunday they will play game three of the series at 1pm.
