Fayetteville Technical Community College will host a “Meet Your Neighbor” Interfaith Summit from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Multipurpose Room of the Tony Rand Student Center on FTCC’s Fayetteville campus.
Speakers will include local representatives from numerous faith traditions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.
The Summit is billed as an opportunity for people to learn about many faiths, make new friends and enjoy refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.
Expected speakers include:
- Father Luke Awad of St. George Coptic Orthodox Church
- Asnage Castelly, who served in the U.S. Army as a Muslim chaplain
- Rev. Nan Cekuta, the rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
- Michelle Downy from the Fayetteville Friends Meeting, a Quaker group
- Rabbi Dov Goldberg of Beth Israel Congregation
- Dr. Rakesh Gupta, a member of the Board of Trustees at Hindu Bhavan, a nonprofit organization that promotes Hindu culture and philosophy
- Dr. Muhammad Lodhi, an FTCC instructor who will speak about Islam
- Dr. Gaylyn Eddy, FTCC’s Coordinator of Humanities and instructor of World Religion, will lead off discussion. She and other organizers are hoping the event will result in “a conversation about faith, hope and understanding.”
