Guest Artist Concert 022725FTCC will host a free public concert featuring the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra Wind Quintet and FTCC Concert Band on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the FTCC Tony Rand Student Center.

This performance is part of the 2024-25 Guest Artist Concert Series, a grant-supported project from FTCC Fine Arts that brings musical artists to FTCC’s Fayetteville campus to provide educational enrichment to students as well as to perform at no cost to the public.

The FSO Wind Quintet and the FTCC Concert Band will perform a concert featuring the music of esteemed American composer and conductor Ahmed Al Abaca. The wind quintet is a musical ensemble of woodwind instruments, which has a rich history dating back to the 18th century in the European Classical Tradition.

This concert is part of a larger collaboration between the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and Al Abaca, who was commissioned to write a larger orchestral work for the FSO in 2025.

The Guest Artist Concert Series is made possible through support from the Arts Council of Fayetteville-Cumberland County, the North Carolina Arts Council, and in part by contributions from the City of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, and other community partners.

Two more concerts remain for the 2024-25 season.

Composer, educator and performer Dr. Daniel Pappas and the All-American Jazz Collective will visit FTCC in March 2025. Dr. Pappas will give a masterclass and demonstration on the use of generative AI in music composition, and the All-American Jazz Collective will perform in concert with the FTCC Ensemble.

To conclude the season, the FTCC, Jack Britt HS and Gray’s Creek HS choral programs will collaborate in a concert entitled “The Road”. This concert will feature a small string orchestra from the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, and include a performance of Ola Gjeilo’s new work “The Road”, in addition to other appropriately themed choral works.
