FTCC Trojan men’s basketball team walked on to Brinkley gymnasium floor this afternoon in Thomasville, North Carolina with an eight-game winning streak, and high hopes of taking home the NJCAA Region 10 South Atlantic Championship title. It wasn’t meant to be for the Trojans however, as they were defeated by Davidson-Davie Community College, 65-60.
The Trojans were down early on in the first half of the game by 16-4 and came roaring back to tie the score. FTCC fans who traveled to the game, showed support for the Trojans by cheering on their team in a capacity filled gymnasium. Their faith never waned as the game clocked continued to tick and the Trojan lead began to quickly dwindle away. Davidson-Davie filled the scoreboard gap, taking home the coveted title and sealing their spot in the National Championship game next month.
FTCC men’s basketball Coach, Brian Hurd says, “I am really proud of how hard my guys battled today, even though we came up short, we took the number two team in the nation down to the last minute of their game.” Hurd was remembering the drive to finish with a victory between his Trojans and Wake Tech early on in the week.
Dr. Shannon Yates, Intercollegiate Athletic Director for FTCC says, “I could not be prouder of a group of young gentlemen than I am of this Trojan men’s basketball team. They play with heart and determination. They are coached by two amazing leaders in Coach Brian Hurd and Coach Deshawn McCain. We believe in each other. I’m already looking forward to next Saturday, March 5th at 3:00 p.m. as we compete against Florida Gateway College at Methodist University for another chance to make the National Championship Tournament.”
Plan to be courtside on March 5, 2022 as more details will be announced later in the week. Meanwhile, the winner of this game will advance as the 2nd berth term to the finals.
We are still, TROJAN PROUD!
