Men’s Basketball had a slow start to their season in the Fall, going into Christmas break 4-9 and 0-6 in conference play. Something clicked for them when they returned to campus in January as they started to improve.

They quickly turned the win column around, going on a eight game winning streak in February heading into the conference tournament. Within these wins, they beat every Region 10 DII basketball team at least one time this season, including the #2 team in the nation, at the time, Davidson-Davie Community College.

What looked like a lost year, turned into a #4 conference seed going into the tournament, bypassing straight to the Quarterfinals and advancing to the Semifinals. Finishing the season 17-12 overall and 10-8 in conference play.

Coach Brian Hurd led his team to their fourth winning season in a row, earning Region 10 DII Coach of the Year for his outstanding preparation and coaching this season, winning some big games to keep his team competitive and in the running.

Jahlil Green (Greensboro, NC) was the big guy for the Trojans this year, setting a new school records in blocks with 90 in a single season. He had 259 points for the Trojans and led the team in rebounds with 203 earning him the Region 10 Defensive Player of the Year and Third Team All-Region.

Tristin Harkins (Fayetteville, NC) was the leading scorer for the Trojans with 358 points this season. He shot 70% from the free throw line with 56 steals and 89 assists. This earned him Second Team All-Region honors.

Te’Jon McDaniel-McCormick (Salina, KS) earned Third Team All-Region honors with 180 rebounds and 331 points for the Trojans this year. He shot 53% from the field goal range and 71% from the line.

Jayden Pitt (Farmville, NC) and Melquan Jackson (Baltimore, MD) were big offensive guards for the Trojans. Pitt had 328 points and led the team with 97 assists and Jackson had 255 points and 13 steals.

Jaylen Sturdivant (Raeford, NC) led the Trojans in three-point baskets this year making 53, finishing his freshman season with 239 points.

As a team, the Trojans made the most three point baskets this season in program history here at FTCC with 203.

The team has big shoes to fill next season as they celebrated eight sophomores who dedicated their time to help build this program over the last two years.
