Teena Piccione, the Secretary of the N.C. Department of Information Technology and State Chief Information Officer, visited FTCC last Friday, March 21, to learn more about the College’s role in strengthening North Carolina’s cybersecurity landscape.

Piccione toured FTCC’s cybersecurity labs and met with students enrolled in FTCC’s Information Technology program, including those participating in FTCC’s Cyber Safe internships.

Cyber Safe interns visit local municipalities and public services to perform cyber safety assessments, offering recommendations on how to improve the security of their physical locations and digital platforms. Interns have recently performed assessments for Hope Mills, Spring Lake, and several fire stations.

Piccione and FTCC leadership also discussed the college’s cyber-focused partnerships with the military, its role as a founding organization with the Carolina Cyber Network, and its designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
