Softball hosted Salem Community College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday out at JP Riddle Complex. The Trojans fell in both games to the Mighty Oaks making them 3-15 overall.
FTCC vs. Salem CC:
Game One- 3-14, Loss
The Mighty Oaks took the lead in the first inning and never looked back as they scored 14 runs in seven innings.
The Trojans threw three pitchers in the game. Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC) started on the mound before getting relief from Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) and Albani Hooker (Sanford, NC).
The first Trojan run was scored in the second inning on a double from Leah Benjamin (McColl, SC). The other two runs were off two more doubles from Mitchell and Jasmine Wagner (Fayetteville, NC) in the fifth to give the Trojans their three runs.
Finelli, Mitchell and Benjamin each went 2-4, getting six of the Trojans eight hits.
Game Two- 3-15, Loss (6-innings)
The Trojans scored first in game two taking advantage of a Mighty Oaks error.
Salem responded with three runs in the third and fourth innings and nine runs in the sixth to enforce run rule to end the game early in six.
The Trojans scored their second run on a one out double from Mitchell that plated Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) that singled to lead off the inning.
The last Trojan run was scored in the fifth with two singles and two Salem errors.
Hooker started on the mound for the Trojans striking out four, Mitchell and Mia Vasquez (St. Pauls, NC) came on in relief.
Softball is back at home this weekend hosting a conference doubleheader against Brunswick Community College on Saturday starting at 1pm. They will then play Genesee Community College on Sunday in a non-conference doubleheader with first pitch set for 1pm. All home games are free admission and played at JP Riddle Complex: 2823 Legion Road.
