Softball played their last games of the 2023-24 season this past weekend against Cleveland Community College. They had a record-breaking season finishing 22-22 overall and 13-17 in conference play. Softball broke the program wins record for overall and conference wins. This is the first .500 season finish in program history.
The Trojan offense was led by Morgan Brady (Fayetteville, NC) who had 55 hits on the season, 41 runs batted in, 41 runs scored and 18 doubles. Brady broke the school record for doubles in a single season, beating her teammate Ava Basolt (Sanford, NC) who set the new record last year with 15.
Tam Lowery (Raeford, NC) was a huge all around player for the Trojans this season. She led the team in runs batted in and set a new school record of 42. Lowery also added 52 hits, 13 doubles and 4 homeruns. On the mound, she threw 148 innings for the Trojans. Lowery reached her 300th career strikeout at FTCC this season, finishing with 141 strikeouts.
Freshman, Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC), was a big offensive spark for the Trojans this season as well. She added 50 hits with 12 doubles and scored 38 runs in the leadoff spot.
Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC), in her freshman season, finished with a .412 batting average. She led the team in homeruns hitting five and added an additional two triples and 33 singles.
Basolt was another big arm for the Trojans this year. She pitched 96 innings and had 56 strikeouts, improving from last season where she only threw 27 innings with 14 strikeouts. Basolt was a big defensive player for the Trojans when she wasn’t pitching. She mainly switched back and forth between shortstop and third base and ended the season leading her team in assists with 53.
Alyssa Lauber (Lillington, NC) appeared behind the plate in 41 games and led the Trojans with 160 putouts.
Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) had a good freshman season in the outfield and on the bases. She holds the school record for runs scored with 43 and led the team in stolen bases and walks.
As a team, softball also broke the program record for runs scored, doubles, runs batted in and walks.
Head Coach, John Newman, finished his third season at FTCC hitting his 50th win.
Two players earned NJCAA Region X honors from this season: Tam Lowery- Second Team All-Region Designated Player and Morgan Brady- Second Team All-Region Outfield.
