Softball hosted Patrick & Henry Community College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 9. The Trojans pulled out the first game 9-1 in 5-innings and the Patriots did the same in game two, but in six.

Game One, 9-1 Win (5-innings)
The Trojans were the first score in the bottom of the second inning when they plated two runs. With one out, Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) singled on a ground ball to center field. Ava Basolt (Sanford, NC) put a hard ground ball in play to the third baseman for the Patriots that ended up scoring Mitchell from second base. Kaylee Frank (Fayetteville, NC) then singled to get the second run across the plate.
Three more runs were scored in the bottom of the third. Morgan Brady (Fayetteville, NC) reached on an error with one out and Tam Lowery (Raeford, NC) singled. Mitchell doubled to the fence to score Brady from second base. Basolt, Frank and Krista McLean (Dunn, NC) all followed with singles to score two more Trojan runs.
The Patriots scored their one and only run in the top of the fourth inning with one hit.
The Trojans continued to score in the bottom of the fourth and they scored the last four runs they needed to end the game early. Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC) led off with a double and Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) sacrificed her over with a bunt. Brady and Lowery hit back to back doubles to plate the first two runs of the inning. Mitchell singled before Basolt and Frank hit their RBI singles to put the game at 9-1.
Lowery pitched all five innings for the Trojans. She gave up one hit and no earned runs with seven strikeouts.
Game Two, 1-9 Loss (6-innings)
The Patriots started game two with a hot first inning when they scored six runs in the top of the first. They continued to score two more runs in the second inning to lead the Trojans 8-0 after two at bats.
The Trojans scored their one and only run in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Frank doubled to the right center fence. Madeline Burns (Sanford, NC) hit a two-out double to score pinch runner Alyssa Lauber (Lillington, NC) from second base.
Patrick & Henry scored their final run in the top of the sixth and the Trojans were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning so the game ended early in six.
Basolt started on the mound throwing 1.2 innings for the Trojans. Lowery finished the final 4.1 innings.
Softball travels to USC-Sumter on Thursday, April 11 for a doubleheader starting at 2pm. They head to Catawba Valley this weekend for their next conference matchup.
