Volleyball started their season out on the road this past weekend traveling to Chattanooga, TN to play four games at Chattanooga State Community College. It was a very successful weekend for the Trojans defeating two undefeated teams.

Game 1: FTCC vs. Northwest Mississippi CC (W, forfeit)

The Trojans started out in game one against Northwest Mississippi going four sets against the Rangers. 

Freshman, Hannah Spexarth (Fayetteville, NC) led the Trojans with 20 kills. Jacqueline Woosley (Fayetteville, NC) ended up with 44 assists and 3 service aces, matching Spexarth with 3 aces. Taylor Melvin (Fayetteville, NC) had 16 of the teams 65 digs, followed closely by Olivia Johnson (Wilmington, NC) with 12. 

Game 2: FTCC vs. Snead State CC (W, 3-2)

Later that same day, the Trojans played game two against Snead State Community College from Alabama. They pulled our their second win of the season in a close 3-2 match taking set one, three and five from the Parsons. 

Spexarth and Sydney Conklin (Fayetteville, NC) each had 14 of the total 52 kills for the Trojans, while Woosley racked up another 42 assists. Johnson and Melvin added a combined 32 digs and Sonjai Guiles (Georgetown, SC) had 4 blocks for the Trojans giving the Parsons their first loss of the season. 

Set scores: 28-26, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13

Game 3: FTCC vs. Heartland CC (L, 1-3)

The following day, the Trojans started their next game bright an early at 11am taking on the Hawks of Heartland Community College. The Trojans started out slow dropping the first two sets before taking set three forcing a fourth set. 

Morgan Brady (Fayetteville, NC) led her team with 9 kills in the game. Woosley added 30 assists and Aliyah Brown (Fayetteville, NC) had 14 digs. 

Set scores: 13-25, 16-25, 25-20, 11-25

Game 4: FTCC vs. Chattanooga State CC (W, 3-1)

The last game of the day was against host team, Chattanooga State Community College. The Trojans came out with fight as they beat the undefeated Tigers in four sets handing them their first loss of the season.

Spexarth had 11 of the 40 kills for the Trojans, while Woosley added with 31 assists and 10 digs. Guiles had her best game of the season so far with 9 kills and 9 blocks. Melvin contributed 13 digs to secure the win for the Trojans.

Set scores: 27-25, 13-25, 29-27, 25-22

 

Volleyball continues their season this upcoming weekend traveling to New York to play four games on September 3 & 4.
